George M. Cohan

The great American song composer and stage star George M. Cohan starred in this picture in 1932, at the age of 54. His stage career began in 1904 and ended in the 1940's. He founded ASCAP and is called "the father of American stage" When this film was made he was near the end of his career, but we are fortunate to have this only surviving sound film appearance. * Cohan dances in blackface and comes out without it later.

United States entertainer, playwright, composer, lyricist, actor, singer, dancer, director, and producer of Irish descent (3 juli 1878 - 5 November 1942).

George Michael Cohan is known as "the man who owned Broadway" in the decade before World War I, he is considered the father of American musical comedy.
